Benalu teh (Scurrula atropurpurea (Bl.)  Dans.) dan benalu mangga (Dendrophthoe pentandra (L.) Miq) merupakan tumbuhan parasit yang hidup menumpang pada tumbuhan teh dan mangga. Berdasarkan kajian ilmu taksonomi keduanya diketahui masuk dalam famili loranthaceae. Benalu hidup dengan cara menempelkan haustoriumnya pada batang tumbuhan inang. Haustorium ini berperan dalam mengambil air dan zat hara yang ada di dalam tubuh tumbuhan inang (Mudgal, 2011). Meskipun bersifat parasit, akan tetapi dalam kajian ilmu fitofarmaka tumbuhan benalu memiliki potensi sebagai herbal karena memiliki beragam kandungan senyawa metabolit sekunder yang bermanfaat secara farmakologis, diantaranya adalah senyawa kuersetin dan rutin yang merupakan turunan dari flavonoid.
